Patrick Nebo began his career in security in 1986 at the International Business Machine (IBM) headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, United States (US) as a mobile patrol officer while attending college, obtaining his bachelor of public administration degree from the University of the District of Columbia. Subsequently, he earned a masters degree in business and organizational security management from Webster University. He worked as security project manager at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC.

Patrick served the United Nations (UN) for 10 years in a variety of senior security positions responsible for the security of UN personnel serving in global high-risk, high threat areas in Africa, Asia, Middle East, and security training assessment missions in Europe. Based on his record and experience in security operations, Patrick was appointed and served as chief of security at the UN missions in Nepal, and in Morocco administered Western Sahara.

In the area of humanitarian programme safety and security, Patrick was a Security Coordination Officer and Desk Officer at the UN headquarters in New York with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and held oversight responsibilities for security in seven countries in West Africa.

In 1997, Patrick earned board certification in security management as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by ASIS International. He served the State of California, US, as an investigator for six years. He is a veteran of the US Army.
